The Phillips’ Mill Art Committee has chosen Richard Lennox as the “Honored Artist” for the 2013, 84th Juried Art Exhibition.

Richard Lennox of Erwinna, Pennsylvania began painting in grade school. In the late 1990’s Richard sold the family business, Lennox Furniture (near Lambertville) so that he could paint full-time.

Lennox graduated from the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts in 1966. There he was influenced by his teachers Hobson Pitman, Walter Steumpfig and others. Since then he has been exhibiting his oil paintings in Philadelphia, Bucks County and beyond.

Richard states “Painting for me is about light, memory and the senses. It is also a contagion of shapes and forms, horizontal and vertical, stability, rhythms, tonal contrast, volume, textures, that catch the light. Sometimes elements are inventions: buildings, sky, seasons, etc., they are used to try and gather unity that might not otherwise exist. The Delaware Valley has been my visual source.”

A painting of Richard’s choosing will appear in the 84th Art Exhibition.
