The Phillips’ Mill Community Association lost a past Board member and elected Honorary Member with the passing of Janet Marsh Hunt in December at the age of 95.
Janet made significant contributions to the Mill over many years, beginning in the 1960s when she worked on set design for Mill plays. Most significant was her work on the Art Committee. Janet not only submitted her own work but also vigorously encouraged other artists to become involved. In 1978 she began designing the Fall Art Show and continued this task for more than 30 years. She raised funds for and established the practice of giving artists juried monetary awards.
She worked closely with Reni Fetterolf and other members to create the 50th and 75th Retrospective Exhibitions and catalogs. In 2019, the Art Committee recognized Janet for her many years of devotion to the arts with an artist award given in her name.
What’s more, her in-laws, the late Edgar and Winifred Hunt, were Mill members in 1929, our founding year.
The family plans a memorial celebration in March 2024.
