The Mill is bursting with activity this spring. The Art Show Committee selected its signature image for the 95th Juried Art Show at Phillips' Mill, signaling the start of promotions for this milestone year. The Phillips’ Mill Photographic Exhibition, a juried show that attracts incredible talent from across the country—and sometimes the world—is now on display at the Mill. This year’s Spring Musical Cabaret, “The Mill’s Guide to the Best Vacation Ever!” is in production. It could just be the Mill’s best musical ever!

Our month-long celebration of the fine art of photography culminates with the Mill’s Photo Committee Show, featuring the works of the volunteers/photographers who work so hard every year to produce the prestigious annual juried Phillips’ Mill Photographic Exhibition.
This unique show gives artists the freedom to use photography to speak at length with the infectious visual medium. A declarative statement, a soft emotion, a composite or creation that stirs the soul or ignites a memory/dream, all wonderful in their freshness.
Photographer Debbie Wolf Lives and Dreams in Imagery
For the third consecutive year, Debbie Wolf submitted a piece to the prestigious Phillips’ Mill Photographic Exhibition. And for the third time, she was accepted. Only this year, she was also awarded “Best in Show” for her photograph, “Early Morning Ritual.”
Debbie describes work, along with her journey as an award-winning photographer, in a fascinating “Artist Spotlight” interview on the Phillips’ Mill blog.
“Sometimes I dream up photos, stage ideas in my head, imagine post-production … and wait, often for a long time, for the right model, location or moment,” she explains. “Other times, the inspiration comes in the ‘sigh’ and the ‘gasp’ moments. I see something that I am so taken by … its beauty … its brilliance … or its creativity … that I literally gasp or sigh out loud,” she says.
Each year, the juried art show committee calls for submissions of artistic depictions of the Mill, selecting one as the Signature Image for the show. This was a banner year, with 34 submissions received, more than in any other year. With such an array of exceptional artwork, the selection process was both exciting and difficult.
After a well-considered review and ranked voting process, “March Afternoon,” a beautiful pastel by Donna Ruane Rogers of Frenchtown, emerged as the winner and has been named the Signature Image for the 95th Juried Art Show at Phillips’ Mill.
Congratulations to Donna. And a heartfelt thank you to all of the artists who participated in this much-anticipated, annual Phillips’ Mill event.

Inaugural Members Art Show and Sale a Success
Our first members art show was a resounding success with 249 works of art viewed by close to 1000 visitors over two weekends, and sales of all types of artwork—paintings, sculpture, ceramics, textiles, jewelry, and photography. A joyous, excited gathering of hundreds of happy artists and art lovers filled the Mill at our Open House on opening day. Thank you to all the artists who participated, to all who supported the Mill with purchases, and to all who filled our “donations jar” so generously. We couldn’t be more grateful.

An Evening of Poetry at the Mill
Thursday, May 30, 2024, 7 pm
Poetry is alive and well in Bucks County and across the river in New Jersey, and our Phillips’ Mill Poetry Salon last year proved it. The salon was such a success we're doing it again, featuring talented local poets reading from their work, and all poetry lovers are invited.
If you haven’t been to one of our literary salons yet, come out and see what they’re all about. We are dedicated to celebrating local writers, actors and anyone who is interested in the arts.
Registration is free, but donations at the door are encouraged. If you want to read a poem, please contact John McDonnell at mcdonnellwrite@gmail.com.
Play with Words Student Playwriting Challenge
Our 2024 Play with Words Student Playwriting Challenge culminated Sunday, March 3, with an exhilarating performance of the winning plays penned by six local students. Participating in “Play with Words” helps students find their voice, enhances learning, promotes creative thinking and improves literary skills.
Read here to learn what the young playwrights had to say about the experience. Congratulations to all who participated — we look forward to reading your plays next year!
Mastering the Art of Being Julia
Linda Kenyon delighted a packed house at the Mill Saturday evening, March 23, with her superb portrayal of Julia Child. She brought the famous chef to life, recounting Child’s evolution from a spunky young woman who couldn’t cook, to the adoring wife of an urbane Paul Child (who enjoyed fine cuisine), to bumps in the road at Le Cordon Bleu in Paris to … Voilà! America’s best-selling cookbook author and first celebrity chef. Brava, Linda!
This event was performed during the Mill Members Art Show & Sale and hosted by the Membership and Special Events Committees. After the show, guests enjoyed an array of French wines and appetizers downstairs at the Mill. We are grateful to ShopRite of Flemington for supporting the festive reception.
Cheers to Our Volunteers!
Welcome and thank you to all the new volunteers who signed up for our milestone 95th anniversary Juried Art Show and jumped on board immediately to help organize our first Mill Members Art Show & Sale. What an energetic and friendly group! We couldn’t have done it without them!
