Every year, Phillips’ Mill recognizes some of the finest work by area artists with special awards during its Annual Juried Art Show opening reception. This year’s exhibition, the 95th Juried Art Show, will feature a variety of awards.
The 95th Birthday Bash at the Mill last Saturday evening was a rousing success. A full house enjoyed a festive atmosphere under perfectly behaved blue skies thanks to the weather gods and a hard-working committee of volunteers.
Every summer, Phillips’ Mill presents an original, fully developed, never-before-performed play by an up-and-coming playwright as its “Premiere Showcase.” This year’s play, “The Half of It,” written by Domenick Scudera, MFA, and directed by Griffin Horn, was inspired by the life and work of Bert Savoy, a vaudeville drag artist who was active in the 1910s and early 1920s.
Csilla Sadloch was an award-winning artist whose works on paper and paintings appeared in a multitude of solo shows—including at the Woodmere Art Museum—and group shows both regionally and nationally. Known for her large-scale graphite drawings of plant matter, Csilla’s detailed renderings of meandering vines, curled bark, and gnarly roots are striking, meticulous and extraordinarily realistic.
This year’s annual appreciation party for Marshall Circle and Lathrop Circle members was held on Sunday, June 10, at Highland Farm, the home of Oscar Hammerstein and now the Oscar Hammerstein Museum and Theatre Education Center (OHMTEC). The weather was perfect, the grounds were delightful, and the docent-led house tour was a special treat.
The Phillips’ Mill Drama Committee will present “The Half of It,” a new play written by Domenick Scudera and directed by Griffin Horn, as part of the Mill’s Premiere Showcase, on its historic stage on July 18 to 21.
Nineteen local poets—some who have won prestigious literary awards and prizes—read their work to a full house at the Mill on May 30, 2024.
The 2024 “Not Your Run of the Mill Photo Committee Show” included a “Backwall” display of self-portraits with commentary on how each image reflected the photographer’s style.
The historic theater at the Phillips’ Mill has hosted hundreds of plays and events since Dr. George Morley Marshall transformed the old mill into an arts venue in 1910. After researching the cost of renovating lighting and sound, we launched a campaign to raise funds for a much-needed upgrade. We are excited to share that we reached our goal!
The 95th Annual Juried Art Show at Phillips' Mill committee invites artists to submit an artistic representation of our historic Mill for consideration as our signature image for this year's show. The image selected will be used on all marketing, publicity and advertising materials for this milestone art show.
We say goodbye to Joe, a man of many talents and advanced degrees, but here at the Mill we know him as “the drummer in the band”.

The Youth Art Exhibition kicked off with two celebrations at the Mill, a Preview Party for Show Supporters on Friday night, and the Awards Ceremony for students, their teachers, friends and family on Saturday. A good time was had by all!
Phillips’ Mill Community Association is proud to feature the annual Youth Art Exhibition showcasing dynamic artwork from local high school students. Now in its 11th year, the exhibition opens at the historic Mill on January 28.
The Phillips’ Mill Community Association lost a past Board member and elected Honorary Member with the passing of Janet Marsh Hunt in December at the age of 95.
Thank you to everyone who made the evening such a success. The Preservation Committee held a Summer Fête to raise money for the Preservation Fund and honor Kathy and Ted Fernberger for their work over the years. It was a delightful evening of games, laughter and great food in a beautiful outdoor setting.
Matilda Bray, a poet and senior at The Solebury School, submitted one of her first plays to the competition last year, and encourages other young aspiring writers to do the same.
It was a glorious evening along the banks of the Primrose Creek—and actually in the creek itself, as the 2023 Mill Preservation Committee entertained guests with a brilliantly British affair.
Traditions run deep at Phillips’ Mill and two of the most beloved are the Honored Artist and Signature Image for the Mill’s historic Juried Art Exhibition, now in its 94th year. In an unprecedented, exciting, and happy coincidence, independent voting for the two honors this year resulted in the selection of artist Pamela Miller as the recipient of both.
